Gatlang is located approximately 120 kilometres north of Kathmandu, on the western edge of Langtang National Park.

The super express bus in Syabrubesi. The small metal building in the left of the frame is where you can purchase bus tickets back to Kathmandu.
You can take a bus from Macha Pokhari (fish pond) in Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. This is the town where the Tamang Heritage Trail and the Langtang Valley treks begin.
The local bus leaves Kathmandu at 6:20 a.m. It stops at many villages along the route, and takes about nine hours to reach Syabrubesi. The super express bus leaves at 7 a.m. This bus takes about seven hours. You can also take a jeep from Macha Pokhari, and takes five to six hours. Many people choose to spend the night in Syabrubesi.
Once you’re ready to continue to Gatlang, you can either walk or take the bus partway. Walking will take about five hours, with a steep initial ascent from the main road in Syabrubesi.

The jeep from Kathmandu/Syabrubesi seats 10 people, including the driver.
You can skip this uphill portion by taking the local bus from Syabrubesi to Chilime (it is a continuation of the 6:20 a.m. local bus, . It leaves Syabrubesi daily at around 4-4:30 p.m. The bus travels up a series of switchbacks, before reaching a small tea house and lodge at the top of the hill. From here, take the bus 200 metres further, to the place where the road forks. The bus will go down the hill to Chilime, and you can continue walking on the left-forking road to Gatlang. That walk is along a wide, fairly flat road, and will take you about two hours. From there, follow signs for the Parpati Kunda Home Stay, and we will see you soon!
If you get lost, or have any questions, please feel free to call Tashi at 974-120-2815.

Follow our new signs! We’re just a five minute walk down from the main road.

I had a wonderful stay here in 2011. I had set out from Syabrubesi alone in the pursuit of an adventure along the Tamang Heritage trail when I came across Santosh. Santosh immediately welcomed me into his open arms and invited me to stay with his beautiful family in Gatlang. I spent the most amazing time in Gatlang in the company of friends I hadn’t met before.
Thank you Santosh. I hope we can trek together again very soon. You and your family hold a special place in my heart.
